Importing Items from an Excel File

Eos allows for the importing of Items into a Shipment from an Excel file.

Requirements, Capabilities & Constraints​

  • Excel File Format: Your Excel file should feature a single sheet and column headers should be present on the first row

  • Column Naming: Naming your Excel file's columns as closely as possible to the field names displayed under the Mapped Columns pane below will enable automatic mapping which attempts to select the appropriate mapping for you

  • Number Value Columns: It is good practice to ensure your import file columns containing number values feature only whole numbers or decimal values. Blank values are now automatically interpreted as zero values instead of the previous behaviour where Eos would exclude any rows with blank number values from the import.

  • Handling Dimensions: To handle multiple sets of dimensions for an Item its row should be split (duplicated) by the number of sets of dimensions and unique values assigned to length, width and height columns for each row

    • Split ID Column Mapping Field: When splitting Item rows for dimensions you should ensure your Excel file has an Item ID column and that when splitting this ID remains identical for each row's respective target Item
    • Current Mode On - Component Descriptor: Unique values specified for each dimension's Description column will be assigned to its corresponding Component Descriptor field

  • No. Pieces Column Mapping & Handling In Warehouse Status: When the No. Pieces column is mapped the value determines the In Warehouse status of Items/Components. This is handled differently depending on the Job's Current Mode status:

    • Current Mode On: if handling dimensions the values in the No. Pieces column should be either 0 or 1 and will be set against each corresponding Component If not handling dimensions then the No. Pieces column can contain any number >= 0 which will create the corresponding number of In Warehouse Components
    • Current Mode Off: The No. Pieces column can contain any number >= 0. Any > 0 will create an In Warehouse Component
      If handling dimensions the No. Pieces value should be the same across split rows

Running an Import​

To run an import navigate to the Jobs screen and select a Job and optionally a Shipment to import into. Then click on Tools and Import Items.

  1. Start by loading the Excel file you want to import by clicking clicking on the ... (orange arrow)
  2. If you have named your Excel file column headers after their corresponding mapping field names you will find the mapping selection has been done automatically. If not, proceed to map your Excel file columns to Eos fields manually.
    • Bear in mind the importance of the No. Pieces, Split ID (green arrow) & (blue arrow) and if preserving Item numbers the Number fields. They are responsible for determining Item/Component In Warehouse status, if and how multi-part dimensions sets per Item are handled and the ID numbering of your Items respectively.
  3. Once you're happy with your mapping be sure to check everything is in order over on the Target Shipment & Item pane. More about this in the section below. You cam refer to this guide at any time via the Import File Instructions pane.
  4. When ready, click on OK. Eos will process the import and confirm when done.

Configuring an Import​

You can control into which Shipment your Items are imported into along with control over which Item ID numbers are used for the import.

Navigate to a Job and optionally a Shipment and click on the Tools menu and then Import Items to get started.

  1. Start by loading the Excel file you want to import by clicking clicking on the ... (orange arrow)
  2. Navigate to the Target Shipment & Item Settings (purple arrow)
  3. By default Items will import into a new Shipment. You can change this to the currently selected Shipment if required
  4. You can choose to Preserve Item Numbers which will enable the Number field mapping selector. Eos will attempt to import Items using IDs specified. Prior to proceeding a check is carried out to verify the IDs are available (pink arrow)
  5. You can also specify and Item ID number from which the import should count from
